Tala {The girl Eddie tried to save} When Eddie was in the Philipeans fighting for his country he saw a shadow in a burning hut. He thought it looked sure and almost child-sized, he charged towards the hut thinking he saw a person. He was shot in the leg, by the Captian. The Captain shot him to save his life and we learned that in "The Second Lesson". Eddie never found out if there was a child in the hut or if they survived............
Eddie wakes up to a small child, who he (and most of my class) believed to be the little girl he tried to save at the peir. He thinks he knows exactly who this girl is until, she starts to speak a different language, Philipeano. He listens to her story and hears, "You burn me, you make me fire...... ina (mother) told me to stay hide form sundalong (solider). His time in the war flashes before his very eyes, she was the little shadow in the hut, she did not survive. Tala continues to tell him her story and then Eddie asks the question he previously asked four times, "Did I save her, the girl from the pier?" He learns that he pushed her out of the way, but he tells Tala he felt small hands. Tala walks from the river and places her hands in his, "My hands" she said "I bring you to heaven. I ... keep you safe." Tala was Eddie's fifth person because she taught him that even though he thought his life was worthless, he sacraficed his life so that Amy or Annie could continue to live her life. He learns that Tala brought him to heaven and had to teach him that he saved a lived and wasn't meaningless. The Chapter ends with Eddie going into the final stage of heaven, seeinf his family, friends and Margueritte and mostly importanly becoming one of the people that Amy or Annie, will meet in heaven.

Marguerite {Eddie's Wife} The fourth person Eddie met in heaven was his beloved wife, Marguerite. Marguerite and Eddie truly loved each other and they rekindled their love in heaven. When Eddie awoke in his fourth step he encountered rooms and rooms of all different types of weddings of different nationalities, languages and traditions. As he is walking, he turns to see his wife, young and beautiful. Marguerite, was in a heaven full of weddings, because even if death comes, love will never die. She teaches Eddie that love is forever, and can never be broken.
As the couple catch up on the current world Eddie asks his wife, why she looks younger in this stage of heaven. She responds that she wanted to look the same way she looked on their wedding day. Eddie thinks back on when Marguerite was in a car crash, and sick in the hospital, he askes if she can change to when she was older. The couple continues to walk into the last wedding, the best one, their wedding. Ruby {of Ruby Pier} Eddie's third person is Ruby, who Ruby Pier is named after. Her husband Emile founded the pier and out of love, named it after her. The "orginal" pier, burnt down in a fire and in an attempt to save it, fell sick and ended his own life. After her husband died she wished, that Ruby Pier was never built.
Eddie learned that he met Ruby in heaven to learn that, if her wish ever came true, Eddie's life would be significally different. He also learned, from Ruby why his father is the way he is. His father experienced a horrible experience which effected the relationship he has with Eddie, Joe and his wife. As he ends his conversation with Ruby, he learns that when Ruby was in the hospital with Emile, her father was in the bed next to him. And when she heard where his father worked, she felt a strange feeling in her stomach. Lastly Ruby tells Eddie, to be truely happy, and move to the next step of heaven, he must forgive his father. Quotes That Show :1. He laughed looking at all of them, making eye contact, making sure they were watching him. Then he pulled out his pistol, rammed it into Rabozzo's ear, and shot him in the head. ~Page 70~ 2. But Crazy Two waved the gun and yelled again and Crazy Three and Crazy Four slowly lifted Robazzo's body by its feet and dragged it along the mine floor, leaving a trail of wet blood, which, in the darkness, looked like slipt oil. ~Page 71~ 3. Something darted across the door opening. Eddie tried to focus. The heat was intense, and he shielded his eyes with his free hand. He couldn't be sure, but he thought he'd just seen a small figure running inside the fire. ~Page 81~ 4. He was sickened by the captivity and sickened by the murders, sickened by the blood and goo drying on his temples, sickened by the bombing and the burning futility of it all. ~Page 83~ 5.A piercing pain ripped thought Eddie's leg. He screamed a long, hard curse the crumbled to the ground. Blood was spewing below his knee. Plane engine roared. The skies lit in bluish flashes. ~Page 84~ WhyI think these experiences, changed Eddie, he witnised a friend die, almost burned to death and he was shot in the leg. War is no joke, its extremely dangerous and violent. While serving time in the military Eddie experienced things that matured him and took his childlike attitude and happiness away. Eddie is a perfect example that "War changes a Man." I think these things changed him because when you exprience something that graphic and gory, it never will leave you. Watching a friend die could effect past memories and effect future relationships. War is extreme and can change you and the way you thing forever.
The CaptainThe Second person Eddie meets in heaven is his commanding officer from the war in the Phillipeans, the Captain. Eddie was part of the Captains unit along with, Smitty, Morton, and Rabozzo. Eddie and the Captain became extremely close after they were captured by the "Crazies". They were all put in prison, forced to mine for oil and coal and one day Rabozzo got extremley sick. Sadly Rabozzo was killed by Crazy 2, which damaged Eddie's confidence. Eddie stopped counting off the days till he would get to see Marugitte. But, one day Eddie saw one of the Crazies juggling. He was able to distract the guards and save the Captian, Smitty and Morton. His knowledge of jungling, his upbringing, got him out of this rough situation. Eddie thought his life was useless, but I think the Captain's job was to show him that, he saved 3 people. Without him they would all probably, be dead.
The Blue ManThe first person Eddie meets in heaven is the Blue Man, from the Freak Show. The Blue Man died on Eddies 8th birthday. As Eddie listens to the Blue Man's story he realizes why he met the Blue Man in heaven. When Eddie was young Eddie was playing with his ball and it accidentally rolled into the street. Eddie quickly ran into the street, grabbed the ball and ran off. As an effect of young Eddie doing so the driver in the car has to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting Eddie. He continues to swerve and sadly died of a heart attack. Eddie is at first extremely confused on why he is being told this, until he recalls a memory from his childhood. He also remences going to a funeral on his eighth birthday, he never knew who's funeral is was, but now he knew. He was the little boy, the Blue Man was the driver and young Eddie attended his funeral. Eddie never knew that something he did as a child resulted in the death of someone else. As the Blue Man finishes his story and telling Eddie his purpose on Earth he slows turnes from blue to a peach. He is able to be at peace with himself and his past life.
He felt two hands in his own, two small hands. A stunning impact.A blinding flash of light.1/13/2016 This quote is crucial to the book, because it symbolizes Eddie going into heaven. Eddie experiences his last moment on Earth, more importantly the last thing he felt. The last thing he felt was the hands of the little girl he lunged to save. He sacrificed his own life to try to save her. A stunning impact, A blinding flash of light, and then, nothing, Eddie experienced dying and going into what is called "the first step."
