SummaryChapter Two of the novel "The Outsiders", written by S.E. Hinton, was really able to give us a clear picture of the Socs and the Greasers relationship and how they interact. All the boys went to a drive in movie and Dally was talking dirty about the two Socs girls siting in front of them Johnny and Ponyboy eventually stand up for them and befriend them. Togther they are ableto talk about and discuss social classes and their effects on their town. While the two girl believe not all Greasers are like Darry, they still agree that Socs can have it bad too. And at the end of the chapter they don't stick up for the Greasers, they go along with societys rules that, two people from different social classes cannot hang out and been seen together. Quote Explanation"Even if they did have their own troubles. I really couldn't see what Socs would hve to sweat about-good grades, good cars, good girls, madras and Mustangs and Corvairs-Man, I thought, if I had worries like that I'd consider myself lucky. I know better now."
I think when Ponyboy is saying this, he is in a way trying to say that the Socs problems, weren't real problems. I agree with that in a materialistic view. Ponyboy and the rest of the boys did not have all these luxeries, they would be lucky, some weeks, to have extra food. While their grades were could some of them couldn't even go to school because they had to worry about providing for the younger memebers. The Socs didn't have to worry about making their own money or supporting themselves. They also had parents who could help them in downtimes, these boys only had each other.

SummaryIn chapter one of the novel "The Outsiders", written by S.E. Hinton we get an insight to the life of Greaser, Ponyboy. We follow him along as he has his first incounter with the Socs. In Ponyboy's town their are two main gangs the Socs; which are the rich, privallegded teenagers who live on the West Side and the Greaser; the unprivallegded teenagers who live on the East Side. Ponyboy is a Greaser along with; Soda, Two-Bit Mathews, Darry, Johnny, Steve and Dally, the head of the group. Dally, was almost of the father-figure for the group, he worked hard and pushed the boys to be the best they could be, no matter what the costs. So one day as Ponyboy is walking home from the movies he gets juped and badly hurt from a group of Socs. Heis hurt bad and very shooken up from the whole experience. He is yelled at by Dally who said that he should never be walking bad himself and that one of the boys whould have gone with him. But Soda reveals at the end of the chapter that the only reason why Dally is so hard on Ponyboy is because he loves him and wants a better future for him. Quote ExplanationSoda threw one arm across my neck. He mumbled something drowsily. "Listen kiddo, when Darry hollers at you.... he don't mean nothin'. He's just got more worries than somebody at his age ought to.Don't take him serious... you dig, Pony? Don't let himbug you. He's just really proud of you 'cause you're so brainy. It's just because your the baby-I mean, he loves you a lot. Savvy?"
This quote stands out to me because it shows Sodas personality and his opinions and views on Darry. It exposes that even though most of the boys have a tough(tuff) exterior that they have real, true emotions on the inside. That they are almost a close-knit family, where they all care for each other, want the best for each other and watch out for each other. I agree with this statement. I can give input in this because I am a teenager. Teenagers often struggle with pure pressure and the decision making process. Some teenager make their decisions based on who their friends are, what they personally want, or how they want other people to see them. Some also do certain things to make them look cooler or to become more popular. I can say that I have been faced with making decisions and it is difficult. You need to ask yourself what you think is right and not do something just because you feel like it, But you should always try to only focus on your opinion and not let what other people think or say influence you or your actions. You also need to factor in the consequences of you actions. Sometimes doing something because it'll make you happy, isn't always th best way to go.
